Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell is a Washington D.C.-based American TV journalist, anchor, and commentator. Mitchell graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a diploma of English literature. Mitchell was hired as a reporter by KYW Radio and TV Philadelphia in 1967. 1996, she was hired by WDVM-TV Washington DC, a CBS-affiliated station (then WTOP). In the following two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. 1981 she started covering for the White House, and in 1988, she was promoted to Chief Correspondent to Congress. Mitchell was appointed the Chief White House correspondent in 1992. and chief foreign affairs Correspondent for NBC News. Mitchell was host and an expert panelist on the TV program Meet the Press. She participated as a member of the panel at 1988 presidential debates between George Bush, and Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is married to Alan Greenspan who was former chairman at Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell has been awarded numerous times for journalism excellence, including the Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her with the Leonard Zeidenberg Award from the Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell was the first reporter to write about White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president from 1981-1988. Mitchell has reported on a variety of notable reports over time, including fiscal reform, the budget, and the Iran Contra affair. Mitchell traveled extensively along with Reagan and Mikhail Gorbachev to world summits.
